Nick Howell prepares his van for the day's work ahead
This involves taking out a few TV boxes from televisions supplied to customers from the day before and restocking the van with vital parts for the day's work ahead.
The first job
The first job is to attend a previous job and just make some final touches to a media room that was installed by TV Magic. The customer also had a new record player and $700 sonos bluetootch speaker that they wanted integrated to their system. The sonos speaker sounded very beautiful! The record player in conjunction with the sonos speaker was even more beautiful!
Off to the next job.
A block of units near the city were having TV reception problems throughout. Nick double checked and tripled checked. (He couldn't believe that a recently installed TV antenna was dead). This was only a month old and it was a competitors brand. Being forgiving of the faulty components, Nick was less forgiving of the electricians who installed an antenna without the proper testing equipment. In the end, the customer didn't mind so much- they were just happy that everything was now working.
Parked at the next job - Another TV reception repair near Brisbane City
This job came from a real estate agent who refers us lots of work. A tenant in a block of units had just moved in and was experiencing TV reception problems.
What could this be? An old TV splitter? How old? Our guess was 40 years!
Up on the roof we go. This was a high roof.
What we found was atrocious. The gear must have been 40 years old itself. Not to mention previous work where the asbestos roof had been drilled into. We were extremely careful where we walked.
Satellite Dish installation (where Foxtel couldn't do the install) was the next job
At TV Magic, our technicians have a little bit of charm and character. Nick was reminiscing about how a customer once upon a time made a comment "What type of wide brim hat is that?"(As they were pointing at the satellite dish). So, we decided to have some fun with it :)
The perks of installing satellite dishes and TV antennas atop of rooves is the fantastic views. For moments it feels as though you have escaped the hustle and bustle of the city. For moments it feels as though you could nearly be no where near the city but instead on top of a mountain. The antenna installers have their moments where they see all the fancy properties, the real estate, the river, the buildings. Some of it can be real eye candy.
The next task of the satellite dish installation that foxtel contractors could not complete was to install a multi switch and figure out what cables go where.
