"We thought we might have needed a tv antenna signal booster after my husband added 4 new TV outlets to our old antenna system. We called TV magic to come have a look at it for us. Turns out not only did we need a tv signal booster but also an antenna upgrade and a few other bits and pieces that had aged. I'm so glad I can watch the footy final tonight without worrying about constant channel drop outs and pixilation" Geoff G from Carrara Gold Coast.

Words from Dan our Carrara tv signal and booster expert. There's a variety of reasons why a home might need a tv signal booster and it's not always because of the area they live in. If you do live an area that receives low TV antenna signal on the roof there is a very high chance you will need a mast head amplifier installed. Other circumstances though can be because you've got a huge house with long coax cable runs to the tv outlets, as every meter of cable you lose a little bit of signal. Sometimes when a home's coax cable is old it loses much more signal than new cable but the cost of running new cable is far more than just installing a signal amplifier which most of the time can resolve this issue too. If you're home has many TV outlets like 6 or more than it's very likely you'll need an antenna signal booster regardless of how good the signal is on the roof as the splitters and cable lengths will probably reduce the TV signal too much causing pixilation and channel drop outs.

One thing you have to watch out for when installing a new mast head amplifier / tv signal booster is that it's quality build as the weather can penetrate substandard amplifiers pretty quickly and unfortunately this is what most retail stores sell. Another common issue is the cable tie that is supplied with your amp will break after a few years and then water will get in and wreck your booster. This is very common.

Many times the homes in Carrara Gold Coast already have a booster installed and the reason why they have no TV reception and need repair is because the power source is missing. Sometimes a masthead amplifiers booster power pack is located at a tv point inside the home and when owners move out they unknowingly take it with them causing TV signal pixilation for the next tenant as the booster will not work without it.

A real-life example from today, 8th November 2017 follows:

Gary from Carrara Gold Coast was experiencing TV reception issues and called TV Magic out to help with fixing the pixilating TV channels by repairing the TV reception. When we arrived we found Gary's home already had a masthead amplifier installed but the cable clips holding it onto the antenna mast had broken so it was hanging upside down. This meant when it rained the water got in and wrecked the booster. We replaced both the amplifier on the roof and the booster power pack inside and Gary's TV pixilation issue was fixed.

Having TV reception problems? Pixelation? One channel dropping out or freezing?

Why does that happen? How is digital Tv different to analogue? Why do you only get problems on one TV point or only on one TV channel?

The following videos give you some answer to all of the above. These are very commonly asked questions. Basically, any problems you are experiencing will not fix themselves. They may come 'good again' however, this will be temporary. By Calling TV Magic we can ascertain by using our 'field strength meter' just how good or how bad your TV channels really are. When we test, we are looking to see if any channel is reaching minimum signal requirements. This will make sure there is enough 'head room' for fluctuation for bad weather, trees, a few broken elements and other factors that effect signal strength and signal quality. If these minimal requirements are not met, yes you may still have a 'perfect clear picture' however the BIG QUESTION is; for how long for? Yes your bald tyre does keep air in it and drives your car around, but obviously it's not going to take a nail or a bit of glass on the road as well as a brand new tyre.
