Q: Does the Franchise Information pack contain all the information I need to know about becoming a TV Magic Franchisee?
A: No. This information is merely the starting point. It is designed to give you enough information to decide if it might be right for you. As soon as you have made that decision, we will embark on journey to fully detail the opportunity and the process of becoming a franchisee.
Q: What benefits are there in becoming in a part of TV Magic?
A: TV Magic is simple to operate, has low start up costs, low overheads and fully established product supply chain (Cable Magic). Joining TV Magic makes you a part of a national operation with access to our Business Support System – a trialled and tested suite of marketing, products and support services. You will also receive all the additional benefits and buying power of an established national operator.
Q: Do I need previous technical / business experience?
A: No. The most important things to us are self-motivation, a willingness to learn, and a strong desire to succeed. We teach you the rest! TV Magic is ideally suited to the owner / operator with these characteristics and an aspiration to provide superior customer service.
Q: How much can I make from a TV Magic franchise?
A: With any business or franchise, how much you make will depend on you. TV Magic will assist you with formulating and achieving your goals, all backed up by a trialled and proven system. We will teach you all you need to know to be a brilliant TV technician and run a profitable business. However, no one can guarantee success but you. The financial modelling that we provide you with later in the franchising process will provide the indications of what a suburban Franchise may return and the typical expenses associated with that. Again, these models are here to help you with your evaluation of the potential and in no way represent a guarantee of your performance. If you don’t get up and go to work, no projections are of any relevance. Our current franchisees are earning anywhere between $2500 - $7500 gross profit per week, (per van) - following the TV Magic System. Weekly figures are predominently influenced by two things; the types of jobs booked for that given week & the confidence & experience of that franchisee.
Q: Do you tell me how to run my franchise or can I run it the way I want?
A: The whole idea of purchasing a TV Magic franchise is that the IP and the systems are trialled and tested. There is no need to reinvent the wheel. You must run your business along the guidelines we set down. This is to maintain a consistency of customer service and to maximise your profits and opportunities for success.
Q: So how do I know what procedures to follow?
A: The franchise agreement you sign sets out your obligations to the operation of a Franchised TV Magic territory. The confidential Operations Manual outlines the standards and specifications to which you must adhere, and contains vital notes, guidelines, policies, instructions and directions critical to your success.
Q. How long is the franchise term?
A: The TV Magic franchise purchase is a 15 year contract broken up into 3x 5 year terms.
Q. How soon do I start paying franchisee fees?
A: We actually give you a 2 week 'grace period' after you complete training. You'll have two full weeks to do as many jobs as you can, keep all your profits and royalties don't begin until the first Monday of week 3. You'll have jobs to go to on the first week of business. Every single new franchisee to date, has had jobs booked for their 1st week of business. Very quickly the cash and profits coming in from your TV Magic business will cover the operating costs of your business and fund your lifestyle.
Q. Do I need a brand new car? Can I use just any old car? How do I set it up?
A. No. Near new is fine. We recommend under 100,000 ks - See the info tab "VEHICLE REQUIREMENTS" below for more detailed information.
Q. Where do I get supplies from?
A. TV Magic has its very own supply chain - Cable Magic! Cable Magic has 95+ line items. Cable Magic supply all the 'staple-every-day' items to run your TV Magic business for 95% of jobs. (These 95+ items include pretty much everything that doesn't have a power cord). For Television, amplifier, speaker purchases etc - you'll source from a local supplier - from one of our many national strategic alliances. Contractually your supplies MUST be purchased from Cable Magic. All prices and quality are on par / competitive with any other supplier across the country. Cable Magic ships to your door. You will receive very generous account payment terms and Cable Magic serves to help grow your business. Cable Magic invests its profits back into marketing to get you more jobs! You get more jobs - you'll order more products! NOW try and get that from any other supplier! (They actually usually have their own small installation team and are competing against you/us! Q. Do I have to pay another franchise fee to put on extra vans?
A. No. Whilst there is not another franchise fee to pay - you will have to committ to the investment of an 'extra startup'; extra vehicle etc. As per our franchise agreement this is 50% of the cost of the franchise territory price. This is a hard cost (provided at cost) to properly and effectively setup your additional units (excluding vehicle). They essentially get everything that you got with your initial franchise. This is a process that is conducted and rolled out very thoroughly so that no mistakes are made. The last thing you want to do is invest all this money to upscale your business and find you need to down-scale it 6 months later! (The "horror stories" we've heard from other franchise systems who provided no support and said "no extra costs for extra vans" make us cringe!) Just think.. if there wasn't extra costs; that's just a recipe for failure and disappointment. Each additional van you put will also attract 50% extra royalties per van. This really is quite a neglible expense. That extra van will have another "$5k per week earning potential" (and will achieve that!) and will easily cover its own costs (if everything is setup and launched properly). We don't leave things to chance and will hold your hand along the journey. Before you know it, you'll be thinking "Why didn't I do this sooner!"
Q. Can I actually get off the tools? Is it a reality?
A. Getting off the tools is entirely possible with TV Magic - due to the TV Magic franchise territory size. We have a number of franchisees who have multiple vans and a number of franchisees who have been going 5,10 years and have no interest to grow to multiple vans. (This is totally OK.. and is totally up to you!) Growing your TV Magic business to your first additional van can come as quickly as 12 months but the average is 24-36months. Others have taken a little longer. Expect to increase business running expenses. IE: Franchisees who have only one van may only invest $300-$500/ week on marketing to get $5000-$7000 worth of work for one van. A TV Magic business with 3 vans may spend $1200 - $1500/week on marketing to get $15,000 - $20,000 work per week for their 3 vans and keep all 3 x vans busy every week. It's all part of the magic formula and we have all the experience and support to offer to help you grow, get there, recruit and train additional operators and help you grow your business!
Whilst we have to date: A 100% profit success rate for all TV Magic franchisees; from experience - we do not promise or guarantee you will get off the tools! Growing your business will involve further experience and training in leadership, marketing, business acumen and even technical skills. The TV Magic franchise opportunity is a SOLID INVESTMENT even if you stay at the level of SINGLE OPERATOR the whole time. The perks of growing your TV Magic territory to multiple vans will require additional investment on your behalf including, additional vehicles, additional marketing, investment into training and recruitment, additional tools etc (all when you are ready for such things). In the Franchise Agreement, it stipulates a 50% of the franchise purchase for each additional van. Your extra vans will also require 50% additional royalties (per van). This is all part of the magic success formula that we have developed and proved to work for over 2 decades. Your potential additional operators will be inducted and trained just like you were and become part of the TV Magic family (as much as any franchisee). They are supported and marketed for and launched in a manner that you are (when you first opened your TV Magic franchise) with the plan to have a smooth roll-out of the doubling / growth of your business. Whilst we have had many contractors (whom worked for franchise owners) come and go; we have had zero franchisees who have upscaled their TV Magic business and have down-scaled. (As of Sept 2025).
Q. Do any TV Magic franchisees have other jobs / businesses? on the side?
A. NO. Whilst some franchisees choose to run the business part-time, or more as a "lifestyle-business"; none of them have a side hustle that they rely on for income. For all TV Magic technicians and franchisees - this is their only and PRIMARY INCOME.
Q. Do you charge lead fees?
A. We charge absolutely zero $ for lead fees! Some franchise systems charge ridiculous fees for leads (of $9 per lead!) and even $45 per lead!
We've heard all the horror stories; such business models are very out-dated and so 1980's! It's a problem for many reasons including: calls from; "price shoppers", " quote only's", "double-bookings", "I want some info first calls" and "repeat customers". All these calls hit your account as a lead you have to pay for, whether you win the job or not or whether they were even wanting a job done! ... (And you're paying franchisee fees and a call centre for this terrible service!)
Hey, we're a bit different. We charge $0 for a lead! And we don't limit the # of leads you'll receive! Be careful of any franchise company that is charging lead fees - they are essentially a "marketing company in disguise". They give you the smallest of franchise areas, if you cannot service your territory properly or efficiently.. leads are sold to other neighbouring franchisees (who are happy to take your meal ticket!) - and that's all it is - a meal ticket!... like a crowded beach of seagulls fighting neck and neck for a packet of chips.
Here's how we do things differently: We don't hide the fact that you are running a business and MARKETING is essentially the back-bone of your business. At head office we are aggressively marketing your territory (like you're not going to do anything for yourself). On top of that, we train you on marketing and it is a contractual requirement that you do L.A.M (local area marketing) - some marketing for yourself. This team effort is a recipe for success. A result that sees that you have more leads than you can handle!
Q. What about Insurance?
A. Insurance requirements are relatively basic for a TV Magic franchise. Our legals require that you have a min. of public liability insurance to cover you for $10mil (and you will req. coverage for up to $20mil to be able to carry out commercial work). The difference between $10mil & $20mil is fairly neglible - like $50per year (e.g). The cost for this insurance is around the $1500 per year. Other insurances you will have; you will probably have anyway - vehicle comprehensive insurance etc. But as for your TV Magic business - that is all that is mandatory. Some of the guys have optional extras like income protection and so forth - but that's entirely up to you. We can also refer you to an insurance broker (who has compiled very competitive insurance packages and has taken care of insurance for 70+% of the franchisees - BULK BUY insurance deals). This insurance brokerage firm will be able to point you in the right direction and explain all the ins/outs of business insurance for your new TV Magic business. They have proven to be an invaluable assett to the TV Magic business; for peace of mind. On the few occaisons that claims have been made, they took care of everything - made claims go through smoothly and without stress. They have assisted in creating a positive result for the client and the particular TV Magic franchisee; where an off-the-shelf insurance product would have let them down.
Q. How many accidents / insurance claims actually happen?
In our business model, in our industry (and with the training you will receive) - the number of insurance claims made are very low! For every 3000 clients, a small incident occurs; and for every 5000 clients an incident is substantial to make the insurance excess - worthy of a claim. Accidents are inevitable in any business or any industry. We have franchisees who have not needed to make a single claim in 10 years. Others, who average one claim every 3 years - (approx 3000x jobs).
