5 Situations when your TV aerial might need a masthead amplifier (TV signal booster)
- Your're in a hilly area. If you're not getting a line of sight to the transmission tower you'll probably be getting a weaker, refracted signal which will probably need amplifying. There's lots of homes like this in Palm Beach Gold Coast.
- You have lots of TV's 5+. The more the TV aerial signal is split, the less signal will get through by the time it's passed through the splitting devices and sometimes it will need electronically boosting up so the TV signal at the points doesn't pixelate.
- Long cable runs. For every meter your TV aerial signal has to pass through you lose a little bit of the original signal strength. These situations can be fixed by installing a TV signal amplifier. Note; if you have some long and some short cable runs you may have to do some fine tuning with other specialised equipment because if you make the TV signal too strong for the closer outlets in order to cater for the longer runs then you may get channel pixelation on the short runs. Too much signal causes the same channel pixelation results.
- Old cabling that's too costly to replace. Along with losing aerial signal every meter when a cable gets old and the insulation breaks down you will get a significant increase in the signal loss over a distance. Instead of running new cabling, sometimes it's easy and cheaper to install a tv antenna booster to power through it.
- Shared Antennas. Buildings and apartment complexes etc, will always need TV antenna / aerial signal amplifying in order to supply all the dwellings. I feel sorry for the managers when their antenna systems go down as they have many people calling them at once for the same problem; we always give these situations priority.
A real-life example from today, 26th February 2019 follows:
"Anthony moved into a duplex and found he had no TV reception whenever his neighbour went on holidays. What we found when we arrived was that the power source for the shared antennas signal amplifier of their Palm Beach home was powered from a booster in his neighbours TV socket. So when they'd leave for holidays they were switching off the power for the shared antenna system without knowing it. The solution: we suggested Another have his own TV aerial and amplifier installed with his own power supply so each side of the duplex is independent of each other which he agreed to get done. We had time to do the install then and there and Anthony was very pleased to be watching TV again."
