"Melanie moved into a new home that only had one TV point downstairs and she wanted three new TV outlets installed in the top floor of her two-storey home. Thankfully Melanie's Palm Beach home had a nice high roof cavity for us to work in. Before we started though we checked the TV signal level to make sure it could handle another three TV connections which it could luckily. Extra we finished Melanie enquired about having a Foxtel outlet installed downstairs next to her TV antenna point. Since we can't run a new cable downstairs to that inner wall well have to use some special Foxtel and antenna signal combining equipment. Any who we're heading back next week to help Melanie with this."
5 Common situations that can make running new cables for new Foxtel / TV sockets difficult
- Multi-storey homes. If you have a multistorey home and you want to run a new foxtel point etc after your home is built than it can be very difficult or not feasible to run new cabling to the downstairs levels for multiple reasons. We might be stuck running cabling down the outside of your home or under carpets etc. to get it to where you want it in these situations.
- Buildings. We normally require access to a workable ceiling space to install new Foxtel points or TV antenna connections as we generally have to get above the walls to drill down, but of course this is something you don't have in a building; you're nearly stuck with the current wall plate locations within reason after the building is built. There is some out of the box solutions to some situations though.
- Homes on low stumps with underneath cabling. Who wants to crawl under your home and work? Nobody really, it's very dirty and uncomfortable, however this is the reality sometimes with some houses in Palm Beach Gold Coast.
- Odd frame structures. Some renovations don't use the normal frame structure the rest of your home uses which can make this difficult or near impossible when drilling down the wall cavities trying to get a cable to the bottom; having multiple horizontal beams or insulation in the walls as an example.
- Tin roofs with external wall outlets. Imagine wanting someone to install a new TV Point or Extra foxtel outlet on a wall of your home that's in the corner of the roof where there's no room for someone to get in there to operate? Unless you're willing to lift a roof sheet or something like that you may want to consider a new location.
A real-life example from today, 25th February 2019 follows:
"Nelly has her grandchildren coming to stay soon and wanted to get a TV outlet installed in the kids play room so they can watch their ABC shows etc. When we arrived, we found Nelly's antenna system to not even be working and she didn't know because she just watches Foxtel normally. So basically, we had to fix her TV reception first and then we could install the new TV connection in the kids room. Turns out her TV antenna system hadn't been touched for 20 years so we had to replace it. At least now she can switch to normal TV herself when the Foxtel service goes down from time to time as well."
