Here at this Taperoo home they needed a new TV antenna installation. It was obvious once I got on the roof to inspect the old TV antenna. It was facing straight into the houses across the road. Not to mention that the old aerial was under-performing and the balun had, had it. 

Below are some pics of the old analogue aerial.  

The tv channels that were pixelating previously:

  • 72 
  • 7 Mate
  • One HD
  • channel 7
  • No SBS at all
  • No ch31 at all
  • None of the ABC channels.
After the new TV antenna installation (including moving the antenna just a few metres to the left - click here to read why this is done) and replacing some cable and the splitter and re-tuning the 3 tv's - all channels were perfect. 
This was one of those jobs where I tested the aerial near the peak of the roof, and even at the other end of the house and just one channel - (channel 9 I think) was still a little hit and miss. It just so happened to be that the signal broke through in an unusual spot a few metres away from where it originally was.
I double checked that I couldn't avoid installing a new aerial mast by alligning the aerial better on the existing mast but to no avail, I just wasn't happy with the signal quality. It made me realise that after testing all parts of the roof, despite my initial judgement, whoever installed the aerial some 15 years ago got the position right. Due to more recent developments it must have blocked the frequency for channel 9 to hit that spot. (This problem is actually becoming more and more common) But at times it reminds me that some jobs just aren't as quick as anticipated and it was a hot day! Im glad I can rely on my signal meter! 
Upon finishing the TV antenna installation, the customer was stoked because they had already wasted a few hundred dollars on another aerial installation company and they had done nothing? In fact I couldn't quite work out what they done at all - as it appeared to be nothing. I asked the customer, even though I was heavily booked up "Well, what does it say on the invoice"? And well, he said, "I don't know! I never got one? Some guy came when I wasn't home". 
That mystery was left unsolved. I was given one very nice compliment at the end of the job and all up, total time for the aerial installation: 1.5 hours. So, if you want your aerial installation done right the first time and in a timely manner -
