Well, firstly you must accept that any burnt dvd (depending on the source) of your download is never going to be as good as an original. Yes, you can go to Thailand or (even order on ebay) movies for a dollar! But, they're never going to perform as good as an original.

Now depending on the laser class of your dvd playing machine (class 1 or 2) you'll find that any burnt dvd plays to varying degrees of success - ie. one dvd player will freeze up every 3 seconds from the tiniest scratch and another will play it straight through. It is a combination of your disk, scratches on the disk, your dvd player brand and quality and whether it is a burnt dvd or not.
